Your RV is a major investment in your life. To protect your investment and get many years out of it, you should make sure you are properly storing your RV. In this article, I’ll go over some simple RV storage tips that you may or may not be using.

RV Storage Tip #1 – Check That Roof

Before storing your RV for a long period of time, be sure to check the seals all throughout your roof. Don’t have the “out of sight, out of mind” attitude when it comes to your RV roof. Cracking on your RV roof can lead to very costly leaks and repairs.

When checking for cracks, just don’t check the side of your roof, check everywhere. Check your roof vents, sky lights, etc.

(What to do? Any cracking you notice can be fixed with some roof sealant from our RV parts store. Sealant is very inexpensive and will save you from some costly repairs.)

RV Storage Tip #2 – Cover Up Those Tires

Covering your RV tires when you’re not using them is a big must! It’s not uncommon to see brand new RV tires with low mileage and plenty of tread ruined by the effects of ozone and UV rays.

The ozone in the air causes tires to dry rot and deteriorate, while the UV rays just makes this whole process happen quicker. Tire rotting is most common on the sidewall of tires.

Driving on sun-rotted and deteriorated tires is very dangerous and could lead to costly damage to the RV. Be on the safe side, and cover up your tires!

(What to do? Covers for all different sizes of RV tires can be ordered by stopping into the RV parts store. Prices range from $XX to $XX.)

RV Storage Tip #3 – Refrigerator Care

When you are done using your RV, be sure to defrost your refrigerator. Leave the doors open a little bit. Moisture has a tendency to stay inside your refrigerator.

It will create mildew inside so next time you come to use your RV, you may have a mildew smell throughout your whole RV.

(What to do? If moisture is still an issue for you, look for a product called “DAMP RID” in Wal-Mart. It is an amazing product that works. It’s under $10.00.)

Hopefully these tips were helpful to you! If you have any questions, feel free to call or stop by! If you are interested in ordering tire covers or finding the right roof sealant for your RV, just stop by our RV store during store hours!
